Job search

Career centre - career planning

Crone Corkill recognises individuality and different career aspirations.
While some candidates are motivated by industry sector and want to develop their permanent careers, others like to gain numerous transferable skills in a temporary position within a large organisation.

Whatever your aspirations, Crone Corkill will support you throughout each stage of your career. However, to set an initial job search plan, it's important to take stock of the knowledge you have of yourself.

Goals and values

Consider where you realistically want to be in two, five and 10 years in your career and personal life. Ask yourself:

  • What do I enjoy doing? What energises me?
  • What is needed in my work environment for me to feel satisfied?
  • Where do I want to be living?
  • What kind of lifestyle do I want?
  • What are my main drives - fame, family, power, early retirement?
  • What level of progression am I seeking within my career ladder?
  • What am I looking for in terms of salary and package?

By working backwards, you will be able to take realistic steps toward your ultimate goal as well as prevent any potential value-conflicts in your chosen workplace.

Career trends

  • Where is the market going?
  • What skills are and will be in demand?

It is important to remember that the market is always changing and evolving. By considering emerging trends, you could potentially guide your career into a newfound, in-demand specialism.

For example, will continuing globalisation increase the value of candidates with foreign languages? Which small businesses are experiencing huge growth? Which industries are going to be at the forefront in the future?

Position and organisation

To form an idea of the type of roles and companies that your Crone Corkill Consultant should be approaching on your behalf, consider the following:

  • What type of environment stimulates you?
  • Is company size important to you?
  • Would the structure of a department impact your decision?
  • Is a brand name important to you?
  • Is a company’s security and reputation a priority?
  • Do you want to work: part-time, flexi time, freelance, job share?

One key to career planning is being open to all roles. Remember, even if you have an initial reservation about a job description, interviews are often an opportunity for you to evolve a role and adapt it to your skills and strengths.
